Myla Magno, PMHNP

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner | Telehealth Across Texas

When You Don't Feel Like Yourself, It Can Affect Everything.

Maybe anxiety has made it difficult to quiet your mind. Depression has taken the energy out of things you used to enjoy. A difficult experience still follows you into the present. Or life has changed—your health, relationships, responsibilities, career, family, or stage of life—and you're having a harder time adjusting than you expected.

Myla Magno is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and major life changes, including older adults navigating the unique emotional and mental health challenges that can come with aging.

With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, Myla understands that mental health rarely exists in isolation. She takes the time to understand what you're experiencing within the context of your physical health, relationships, responsibilities, history, and the life you're actually living.

Psychiatric Care That Looks Beyond the Symptoms

You are more than a list of symptoms.

Myla's approach to psychiatric care is holistic, compassionate, and highly individualized. Rather than focusing only on what you're feeling, she works to understand the larger picture of what may be contributing to it and how those challenges are affecting your everyday life.

She supports adults experiencing concerns including:

  • Anxiety and persistent worry
  • Depression and changes in mood
  • Trauma and emotional distress
  • Chronic stress and overwhelm
  • Grief and loss
  • Difficult life transitions
  • Emotional challenges related to chronic health conditions
  • Changes in identity, independence, or purpose
  • Caregiver stress and burnout
  • Mental health concerns associated with aging

Her goal is to develop a personalized treatment plan that helps you move toward greater stability, clarity, and overall well-being.

Experience That Spans Every Stage of Adulthood

One of the things that makes Myla's perspective unique is the depth of healthcare experience she brings into psychiatric care.

Over more than three decades, she has worked with people navigating physical health conditions, mental health concerns, major life changes, complex care needs, and different stages of adulthood.

This background allows her to consider the relationship between mental and physical health in a way that can be particularly valuable for people whose emotional well-being has been affected by illness, changing health needs, caregiving responsibilities, or significant transitions.

She understands that what you need at 25 may look very different from what you need at 45, 65, or 85.

Your care should reflect that.

Specialized Understanding of Older Adult Mental Health

While Myla works with adults across the lifespan, she also brings extensive expertise in geriatric and older adult care.

For the past 18 years, she has served as an advanced practice clinician in skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, home-based primary care, and geriatric palliative care programs.

That experience has given her a deep understanding of the emotional challenges that can accompany aging, including grief, changing independence, chronic illness, retirement, family-role changes, and concerns related to cognitive health.

She is also an advocate for dementia care and caregiver support through her volunteer work with the Alzheimer's Association.

For families looking for a psychiatric provider who understands both mental health and the complexities of aging, Myla offers an especially valuable perspective.

Decades of Experience, Personalized to You

Myla holds advanced degrees from UT Health Cizik School of Nursing and Wilkes University and has demonstrated leadership in both clinical practice and education.

She is a past president of the Geriatric Nurse Practitioners Association, Texas Chapter, has served on local and national committees focused on older adult care, and has worked as a medical consultant for community nursing home care programs.

But when you're sitting across from Myla, the focus isn't on her résumé.

It's on you.

Her goal is to understand what has brought you to this point, what you want to feel differently, and what kind of support makes sense for your life.
